Relativity Space Headquarters

A High-Design Hybrid of Corporate Office and Rocket Factory 

The vast, two-story headquarters of Relativity Space are designed to celebrate innovation at a company that produced the world’s first 3D-printed rockets. The double-height, 16,300-square-foot lobby and offices, and 3,300-square-foot cafe and breakroom on the factory floor, serve 50-plus employees plus visitors to the site, where rockets are 3D printed in the attached 95,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.   

The design, by architect Susan Nwankpa Gillespie, melds hard edges with curving surfaces, natural materials, and artwork suggesting machined versions of the natural world. Corporate branding is artfully displayed throughout the facility: The rockets’ 3D-printed components are presented as sculpture, a wall-sized rocket engine sketch is enlarged and hung as a painting. The interior spaces are flexible and can be reconfigured for needs such as large, performance-like presentations and collaborations.
